Much has been written about how calorieshifting works. You can probably find 50 articles on EzineArticles.com on the subject. But I haven't seen much on why this diet plan works so well.

You don't have to design daily menus based on 55%  this and 30% of that. You just shop for the items on the menu provided to you, and eat until you are satisfied, but not over-full. Believe me, this saves an enormous amount of time and frustration!

 Variety

The calorie shifting plan provides a wide variety of foods during the course of the cycle. You won't find bacon or sausage on a low fat diet, and you won't find bananas or cantaloupe on a low carb diet. You may not get a wide variety in any one meal, or even one day, but it will even out over a short period of time.

Eliminates Dispair

The number one reason that most people give up on a diet is dispair. We were raised, unfortunately, to eat on a "taste good" basis. Face it, fat taste good. There's a reason for that. Our ancient ancestors ran 30 miles a day in search of meat. They needed an incredible amount of protein to sustain that level of activity. Of course, their life span was only 30 years, and it was likely that they would die of (or be eaten by) something else before their arteries got clogged.

Whatever the reason, fat tastes good, and we were fed on it from babyhood. Of course, the fat that we eat now, especially in deep fried foods, is not natural fat, it's deadly transfat, but that's another story. These plans tell you that if you don't want to regain the weight that you lost, you have to undergo a complete "lifestyle" change forever. And they are right, and you should, but you don't want to. The 3 Day Break is a mandatory and integral part of the calorie shifting diet plan. After each 11-day cycle, you must take this break and eat whatever you want, whenever you want. Of course, you still need to regulate the portions, but this gives dieters a "light at the end of the tunnel". Knowing that you will lose a considerable amount of weight, and then get to eat whatever you like, is a powerful incentive to stay with the program. This is the main failing of conventional diets, and why so many people give up on them.
